Episode 16 - What you can do to feel better
In this week's episode, I share a technique that you can use to safely feel and process the emotions you've been trying to avoid.
We all do it - whether we use food, alcohol, social media, shopping, overworking, exercise, etc. We all try to avoid uncomfortable emotions.
But if we're willing to feel them instead, to move through them, so much freedom is available to us on the other side.
I explain all the steps for you to try this on your own, so you can start experiencing what it is like to feel better and what it is like to be at home with yourself.
Bonus Episode - My favourite productivity hacks
To celebrate the first 2000 podcast downloads, I've created a Bonus Episode for you with something I get asked about all the time:
How do I manage my calendar and to do's with my neurodivergent brain?
In this Episode I share three hacks:
Outsourcing scheduling and setting ample reminders
Using visual reminders in my workspace
How I have set up my 'to do' list and keep it manageable
Give them a listen and then figure out what works for your beautiful brain!
Episode 15 - What to do when it’s not fair
In this week's Episode I talk about injustice.
About all the things you see that aren't fair - and how your reaction may be making it worse.
I'll give you a fresh perspective on injustice and tips on how to deal with it in an effective way that doesn't cost you your health or sanity.
Give it a listen, so you can take your power back and fight the good fight in a way that works for you, rather than against you.
Episode 14 - Why you aren’t taking action on your decisions
In this week Episode I talk about seven things that stop us from acting on our decisions.
The way your brain is wired
Thinking you need to feel good before you take action
Not believing you can do it
Not being specific about the action to take
Not being willing to feel unpleasant emotions
Not having your own back
Not making the process as easy and fun as possible
I give you tips to counteract all these, so that you can start taking action and moving forward, instead of staying stuck.
Because this Episode is loaded with tips, you'll want to download the transcript. You can find it on my website, via this link:
Episode 13 - Black and White Thinking - Part 2
In this second Episode on Black and White thinking I dive into three tools that can help you counter it. If you haven't listened to the previous Episode do check that out first, because will refer back to several concepts I explain there.
The tools I introduce are:
Modifying your language
Thought diffusion
Breaking things up
I give you lots of examples on how to use these and apply them to your own black and white thinking.
They are all surprisingly simple yet incredibly effective - so give them a try and let me know how it goes!
Episode 12 - Black and White Thinking - Part 1
This week I dive into something that plagues all of us: Black and White thinking.
In this first part, I explain what it is, why we do it, and how it can start sabotaging our lives when it isn't kept in check.
I talk about how it can affect our thinking about our identity, take us from a growth into a fixed mindset, and cause perfectionist paralysis, amongst many other things.
At the end of the Episode I give you some tools and suggestions on how to find those pesky black and white thoughts that colour our perception - because it can be quite hard to catch them.
Episode 11 - Clearing the Clutter in your Brain
For this Episode I was inspired by a conversation I had with the fabulous Maisie Hill about what it’s like to be autistic.
Do check it out on her wonderful podcast! Our conversation is spread out over two episodes: Episode 73 and Episode 74.
On Maisie's podcast, we share that one of the reasons we are able to thrive is that we both have designed a life that works with our smart, neurodivergent minds.
Instead of making ourselves and our specific needs wrong, we have (and still are) turning things around. We are designing our life experience to work WITH us, rather than against us.
So this week I want to talk a little bit more about how you can do that too.
It all starts with clearing out the voices in your head that make you wrong for being who you are.
Episode 10 - Frustration As Fuel
A lot of smart humans experience frustration.
Whether it's at work, in daily interactions with other humans, or about the way way organise things on this planet - both at a macro and a micro level.
In this week's podcast I dive into frustration, how it can lead to stress (and eventually burnout), and how it disempowers us.
But you can also use it as a fuel for positive change - in fact, most of my crazy career has been driven by frustration.
Tune in to listen how you can change your thinking about frustration, and use it as a force for good.
Episode 9 - Why Celebrating is Essential for your Mental Health
This week is all about celebrations, and why they are massively important to manage your smart mind.
You've probably heard this before: in order to gain confidence, you need to become your own cheerleader. But you may find that difficult.
In this episode I give you lots of leverage to make the effort, as well as a new perspective.
You do not need to channel your inner Tony Robbins. You just need to channel your most loving, kindest, self - whatever that may look like.
Tune in to learn how you can start celebrating in a way that works for you, so you can increase your confidence and, at least as important, joy.
Episode 8 - Decision Making - Part 2
In this second episode on decision making, I look at the flawed assumptions underneath our thoughts about making decisions.
Basically: there is no such thing as the 'best' or the 'right' decision - and the sooner you realise that the better.
What you can do, is actually decide to make your decisions 'right'.
How? That's what I explain in the second half of this episode.
